Introducing our Team

The Capital Clinical Research Associates (CCRA) team consists of board-certified psychiatrists, experienced clinicians and highly qualified research coordinators. CCRA's medical director, Norman E. Rosenthal, M.D., supervises research and patient care throughout each study.

Norman E. Rosenthal, M.D.

Dr. Norman E. Rosenthal, Medical Director of Capital Clinical Research Associates, is a clinical professor of psychiatry at Georgetown University. A practicing board-certified psychiatrist, Dr. Rosenthal has been listed in The Best Doctors in America and Guide to America's Top Psychiatrists. He served for over 20 years at the National Institute of Mental Health where, as senior researcher in psychiatry and psychobiology, he conducted and supervised numerous clinical trials. He has written more than 200 scholarly articles in the fields of psychobiology and psychiatry and four books, including Winter Blues and The Emotional Revolution: How the New Science of Feelings Can Transform Your Life. He has appeared on 20/20, CNN, National Public Radio, CBS Morning News, and The Today Show, among others.

Joshua Z. Rosenthal, M.D.

Dr. Joshua Z. Rosenthal, Assistant Medical Director, received his premedical training from Brandeis University, graduating magna cum laude. He obtained his medical degree, psychiatric residency and child psychiatry fellowship from the University of Maryland Medical System. He has worked for CCRA in one capacity or another since its inception and currently serves as Assistant Medical Director.

Khursheed K. Khine, M.D.

Dr. Khursheed Khine graduated summa cum laude from George Washington University and stayed on there to earn her M.D., which she obtained with distinction. Her involvement in research during her undergraduate and medical school years earned her the NIMH Outstanding Resident Award. After graduating medical school, she completed a three-year fellowship at the NIMH, specializing in mood disorders and neuroendocrinology.

Deborah Rozenn Dauphinais, M.D.

Dr. Deborah Rozenn Dauphinais graduated summa cum laude from University of Massachusetts and completed her M.D. at Tufts University School of Medicine. She has a wealth of clinical and research experience including having served as Chief of the Schizophrenia Research Branch of the Psychopharmacology Research Program and Chief of the Women's Mental Health Program at the National Institute of Mental Health.

James Perlstrom, Ph.D

James Perlstrom, Sleep Disorders Specialist, earned his Ph.D at Virginia Commonwealth University. He completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship at Eastern Virginia Medical School and currently works with the Sleep Disorders Center of the Mid-Atlantic. His partnership brings to CCRA a wealth of experience in Sleep Disorders of all kinds.

Nick Kozauer, M.D.

Dr. Kozauer completed his medical training at Georgetown University Hospital and subsequently completed his postdoctoral fellowship at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. He is Board Certified in Psychiatry and Neurology, and is working as an investigator with CCRA.

Catherine T. Tuggle, M.A.

Catherine Tuggle, Administrative Director and Chief Operating Officer, received her Master's Degrees from the University of Tennessee (1980) and The Johns Hopkins University (1984). She has more than 20 years of experience in administration, management and public education. She exercises oversight of all administrative, financial, and regulatory aspects of CCRA and works on research projects including new protocol development and contracting.

Larry E. Blossom, M.A.

Larry Blossom, Marketing Director and Senior Clinician, received his Master's Degree in Agency Counseling from the University of Northern Colorado. He has also completed post-graduate courses at the University of Virginia, The John Hopkins University, and George Mason University. He is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Virginia, where he has a private practice. His 25 years of experience in the mental health field makes him a superb screener, clinician and rater for clinical trials.

Holly DiFebo, B.S.

Holly DiFebo, Senior Research Coordinator, graduated from Frostburg State University with a B.S. in Psychology. Before coming to CCRA, she was a research assistant at University of Maryland, Baltimore County, investigating health and addictive behaviors. At CCRA, Holly is one of two senior research coordinators who are responsible for the patient experience, mentoring newer staff, and providing quality assurance oversight.

Andrew O'Connor, B.S.

Andrew O'Connor, Regulatory Assistant, brings a blend of administrative and clinical experience to CCRA. He is a graduate of Appalachian State University with 21 years of experience in the mental health field and has also worked in administrative positions for area associations.

Heidy Palacios

Heidy Palacios, office manager, brings many years and types of managerial experience to CCRA. Her fluency in Spanish makes all of our patients feel at ease during their participation in our studies.

Jurran Wilson, B.A.

Jurran Wilson, Research Coordinator, earned a B.A. in psychology at the University of Maryland, College Park. Before coming to CCRA, he assisted with research in social psychology, specifically in wishful thinking. He has also volunteered extensively within the community at Millennium Eldercare and at Shepherd's Table shelter.

Maria Zumer, B.S.

Maria Zumer, Research Coordinator, received her B.S. in psychology, cum laude, from the University of Maryland, and has also completed graduate coursework in clinical psychology at the University at Buffalo. Maria has research experience primarily in child and adolescent psychopathology (in academic, non-profit, and hospital settings).
