Pain Treatment
Osteoarthritis Knee, Hip, Lower Back, Sciatica
We are currently recruiting participants for our research studies. We are looking for patients, ages 18 to 80 years old, who are affected by osteoarthritis or sciatic nerve pain.
Conventional pain medications are widely used to treat both arthritis and sciatic pain. These medications, as with other treatments, often offer only partial relief. We are currently conducting research to determine if an investigational medication can be added to a patient's existing pain treatment in order to offer more complete relief.
Osteoarthritis: Hip and Knee Pain
Knee and hip pain caused by Osteoarthritis is common. Osteoarthritis typically begins in the 40s and 50s and is thought to affect almost all people by the age of 80. The first symptom of Osteoarthritis is a deep ache (i.e. pain) in one or more joints, especially when the joint is moved or touched. Other symptoms include but are not limited to stiffness in the joint immediately after sleep or inactivity, swelling, and bony overgrowth around the joint.
Sciatic Nerve Pain
Pain arising from compression of the sciatic nerve, otherwise known as sciatica, is also very common. For many people, this pain starts in the lower back or buttocks and seems to travel down one or both legs. Numbness and tingling sometimes come along with the pain as well.
What Is a Clinical Trial?
Every medication on the shelf has at sometime been subject to a clinical trial. In a trial, we try to find out how effective and safe a new medication is. In our current studies, we are looking at new medications that are not available to the general public. These investigational medications might be helpful for people suffering from hip and kneed pain due to osteoarthritis or sciatica.
To participate in a clinical trial at CCRA, you will need to come to our office in Rockville, MD for your appointments.
Interested in Participating?
Although you will need a full screening by our medical staff to be accepted into any of our pain studies, your answers to this questionnaire are important. Please take a moment to answer the questions on the right, and tell us about yourself.
