PTSD Treatment & Therapy

Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is an anxiety disorder some people experience after witnessing or being involved in a traumatic event, such as military combat, physical or sexual abuse or assault, natural disasters like hurricanes or tornadoes, terrorist attacks or accidents. While not everyone who experiences these events develops PTSD, about 8% of all Americans will have PTSD symptoms at some point in their lives. Their symptoms may include nightmares, "reliving" the experience, avoiding situations or places that are reminiscent of the event, depression, difficulty expressing feelings, trouble concentrating, trouble sleeping, being easily startled, and having trouble at work or with relationships. Our current studies involve testing the benefits of promising new alternative treatments, particularly involving combat-related PTSD in veterans returning from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Medication is not involved in our PTSD studies. Participants receive, free of charge, a full assessment by a psychiatrist, the study treatment, continuous follow-up visits and potential compensation for their time and travel expenses.

For more information about our studies, please contact us by calling (301) 770-7375 or by filling out the Contact form at right. For some studies, we offer Self-Assessment questionnaire which are available by clicking on the button above.

Finally, the pages in our Participating In A Study section above contain much more information about how studies work and what you will experience if you qualify to participate in one.
